The Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade successfully foiled an ambush by armed bandits and rescued a kidnapped victim near Oshokoshoko and Obajana in the Lokoja Local Government Area.
The operation, which is part of intensified efforts against violent crime in the state, was confirmed by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army.
Troops from the Kabba Patrol Base, working with Hybrid Forces, intercepted the criminals early Tuesday morning following credible intelligence about the bandits’ movement.
“The troops laid in wait and made contact with the armed criminals,” Lieutenant Abdullahi stated. The bandits initiated fire but were overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower.
The ensuing gunfight forced the criminals to retreat in disarray.
During the encounter, one bandit was neutralized, and others fled with gunshot wounds.
The operation resulted in the recovery of one AK 47 rifle and the rescue of one kidnapped victim.
“The victim, who was found weak and distressed, was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for further medical attention,” the statement noted.
The Army is currently conducting pursuit operations to track down the remaining members of the criminal group.
Lieutenant Abdullahi further encouraged residents to “maintain trust in the ongoing operations and to support security agencies with useful information.”
