The 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin has emerged as the overall winner of the 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA) Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition 2025.

The annual event, held at Headquarters 12 Brigade NA, Chari Maigumari Barracks, Lokoja, from April 7th to 11th, 2025, aimed to refresh troops’ training skills and enhance their overall efficiency and combat readiness.
The competition saw participation from various formations within 2 Division, including 4 Brigade Benin, 12 Brigade Lokoja, 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin, 32 Artillery Brigade Akure, Engineer Construction Command Ede, and 2 Division Garrison.
Additionally, 42 Engineer Brigade, 52 Signals Brigade, and 81 Battalion, Letmauk Barracks, Mokola, Ibadan, also competed, with some formations merged into teams for the event.
The troops were tested in key military skills such as drill, weapon handling, map reading, combat swimming, and obstacle crossing.
The competition served as a platform for showcasing sportsmanship, professionalism, and combat readiness among the participating units.

During the closing ceremony, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division NA, Major General Obinna Onubogu, lauded the participants for their dedication, resilience, skill, and high level of professionalism displayed throughout the competition.
He commended the strong team spirit observed within each formation and encouraged the troops to strive for further improvement in future events.
Major General Onubogu also expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his continuous support to the Division in providing adequate resources for all training activities.
Earlier, the Commander of the 12 Brigade NA, Brigadier General Kasim Sidi, noted that the competition had effectively prepared personnel within the ranks of corporal and below for greater responsibilities ahead.
He praised the participants for demonstrating remarkable courage, unity, endurance, and a high sense of military professionalism, which he stated are exemplary qualities of an outstanding soldier.
Brigadier General Sidi also expressed his appreciation to the GOC for his purposeful leadership and unwavering dedication to nurturing a force that is operationally sound, disciplined, and professional.
He thanked the judges, umpires, and other organisers for their commitment to the success of the event.
Following the keenly contested events, the host formation, 12 Brigade, secured the 2nd position, while the combined team of 42 Engineer Brigade, 52 Signals Brigade, and Engineer Construction Command finished in 3rd place. 32 Artillery Brigade came in 4th, with 4 Brigade and the combined team of 2 Division Garrison/81 Battalion occupying the 5th and 6th positions, respectively.
The closing ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins; the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard, Commodore Tamuno Senibo; the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller Dantawaye; and heads of other security agencies in Kogi State.
The highlights of the event included the presentation of trophies to the winning formations and medals to individual participants who excelled during the competition.
