The Alumni Association of Yobe State University Community Islamiyya School and Abbari/YBC Community held its 2024/2025 graduation ceremony, lecture, and walimah on Saturday, Novemberโ€ฏ29, at the school premises.

The event celebrated the achievements of 35 students who completed their Islamic education and reflected on community development initiatives.

In his paper titled โ€œThe Role of Graduates in the Communityโ€, Prof. Umar Yusuf Madaki emphasised that establishing a community watch group is a responsibility to enhance security and make the community safe.

He recommended the construction of an additional borehole and reticulation project to improve water accessโ€”a major challenge the community faces with its growing population.

Madaki urged the community to organise regular monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings to sustain engagement.

He added that consistent community participation would encourage the government to provide social amenities such as solar-powered electricity, and the community would support school expansion through volunteer teaching services.

Prof. Madaki further called for the inclusion of the neighbourhood in community programmes to foster unity and for leveraging volunteer work as a pathway to self-employment. Prof. Umar Madaki stressed the importance of group work across gender and age groups to achieve collective success.

Imam Mal. Nasiru Salihu (Albani) of YSU highlighted the importance of early Islamic education, stating,

โ€œParents should encourage their children to seek knowledge, especially Islamic education at an early age.”

Children should be encouraged to begin their Islamic education early to shape character and learning.โ€ He noted that early acquisition of Islamic knowledge positively influences behaviour and academic performance and urged youngsters to view their mentors as role models.

Albani congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to venture into profitable businesses and diverse job opportunities rather than relying solely on further studies.

Suleiman Shaibu of Yobe Broadcasting Corporation (YBC) Damaturu spoke on โ€œGraduation and Realities of Lifeโ€, emphasising the need for graduates to apply their knowledge practically and remain resilient. He remarked,

โ€œIt is one thing to graduate and another to face the challenges of life after graduation.โ€

He highlighted the presence of professionals such as doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, and educators within the community and urged them to engage in gainful ventures to benefit the community.

Shaibu commended Governor Mai Mala Buniโ€™s administration for boosting education and urged YSU Damaturu to expand its entrepreneurship programmes to help graduates choose trades and reduce unemployment.

In a vote of thanks, Dr Mustapha Abubakar (YSU) and the PTA chairman urged the graduates to pursue gainful ventures and give back to their communities, reinforcing the importance of community service.
