Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured as the African Governor of the Year for Good Governance at the 14th African Leadership Magazine (ALM) Persons of the Year 2025 ceremony in Casablanca, Morocco.
The award recognizes Governor Yusuf’s leadership in promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, and his administration’s reforms in education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic development.
Representing the Governor at the event, Alhaji Usman Bala, Special Adviser on State Affairs, dedicated the award to the people of Kano State.
The African Leadership Magazine highlighted significant milestones achieved under Governor Yusuf’s leadership, including allocating over 31% of the state budget to education, sponsoring postgraduate students abroad, and implementing technology-driven governance solutions.
Governor Yusuf has also received other accolades, including Governor of the Year on Education by New Telegraph Newspapers, Most Pensioners Friendly Governor of the Year by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, and Teachers Friendly Governor of the Year by the Nigeria Union of Teachers.
“Governor Yusuf exemplifies the transformative power of leadership in Africa,” the ALM editorial board stated.
The Governor’s representatives also participated in the Countries & State Governments Investment Opportunities Showcase, highlighting Kano’s investment potential.
Other honorees at the event included the President of Madagascar, the Prime Minister of Uganda, and the former President of Tanzania.
“Good governance is the foundation of sustainable development. We will continue to uphold transparency, accountability, and policies that uplift our people,” Governor Yusuf stated.
The Kano delegation at the awards ceremony included the Special Adviser on State Affairs, the Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, the Director General of the Kano Investment Promotion Agency, the Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company, and the Director General of Media and Publicity.
