Adamawa State Police have issued a stark reminder of the ongoing ban on motorcycle use in specific areas of Girei, Yola North, and Yola South Local Government Areas, following observed breaches of the restriction.

SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Police Public Relations Officer for Adamawa State, explained in a statement on Monday that the move comes as authorities attempt to maintain public order and security in the region.

The ban, initially imposed by the state government, covers the Viniklang, Federal Housing Estate, Ngurore, Mbaba, Wauru Jabbe, and Yolde Pate communities.

Despite the clear restrictions, police have noted that individuals are attempting to circumvent the order, particularly by disguising motorcycles as chargeable bicycles.

“We have observed violations of the government order regarding the operation of motorcycles in those areas and even within the metropolitan area,” stated SP Nguroje.

“People have been seen filtering within these areas with motorcycles disguised as chargeable bicycles.”

The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify enforcement efforts.

“The CP directs Divisional Police Officers… to immediately enforce the order by apprehending violators and ensuring prosecutions,” Nguroje relayed.

A taskforce, comprising personnel from all security agencies, will be deployed to ensure full compliance. “The taskforce team that comprises all security agencies will be going around to monitor compliance and ensure total enforcement,” Nguroje confirmed.

The police have emphasised the importance of the ban in maintaining public safety. “The Command wishes to advise members of the public to desist from using such types of motorcycles and respectfully comply with such orders to ensure public safety and public order and prevent the breakdown of law and order,” Nguroje said.

CP Morris has also addressed concerns regarding potential misuse of the ban. “The Command, while respecting the rights of citizens, equally urges them to avoid all forms of activities capable of threatening security measures in the state,” he stated.

“However, the Command will not allow hoodlums and misguided elements to operate with motorcycle(s) unchallenged. The security agents will operate in such a way as to ensure lawbreakers are prosecuted.”

The police have urged residents to cooperate with authorities and respect the ban, warning that violators will face prosecution.

The reinforced enforcement comes as authorities seek to curb potential security threats and maintain stability in the affected areas.
