The Adamawa State Government, in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), convened a roundtable engagement to attract private sector investment in distributed renewable energy.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri highlighted his administration’s commitment to economic reforms and infrastructure development.

“We have made significant strides in improving the ease of doing business in Adamawa State,” Governor Fintiri stated.

“Our focus on transparency and infrastructure has created a conducive environment for investment.”

He revealed the state’s investment of N3 billion in over 30 rural electrification projects and plans to train 1,000 citizens annually in solar photovoltaic installation.

“We are committed to expanding energy access across our rural communities,” he said.

“An investor has also expressed interest in developing a 300-megawatt solar PV farm in Adamawa.”

REA’s MD and CEO, Aliyu Abba, outlined the agency’s initiatives to improve electricity access in Adamawa.

“With the support of the Adamawa State government, REA can reconnect 442,560 people to the national grid,” Abba explained.

He projected that this initiative could attract $1.9 billion in investments, boost the state’s GDP by $3.7 billion, and create 40,000 jobs.

“Providing reliable electricity will stimulate economic growth and create numerous opportunities,” Abba said.

The event featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Adamawa State Government and the REA to expand electricity access in rural areas.

Commissioner for Rural Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr. Titus Solomon, emphasised the state’s potential.

“Limited access to energy has hindered our economic growth,” Solomon noted.

“This partnership with REA is a crucial step towards unlocking our potential.”

Speakers at the event called for collective efforts to drive sustainable development and secure a greener future for Adamawa State.
