In a bid to curb the spread of measles in the state, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has directed all commissioners to return to their local government areas (LGAs).
The commissioners are tasked with meeting with health stakeholders and sensitizing the public about the ongoing outbreak.
This directive was disclosed by the Commissioner in charge of Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Reconstruction (RRR) and Humanitarian Services, Barr. Bello Hamman Diram, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Yola South LGA.
Barr. Hamman Diram revealed that four wards in Yola South LGA have been affected by the outbreak. These wards include Bole-Yolde-Pate, Adarawo, Toungo, and Ngurore, with a total of 31 reported cases.
Out of the reported cases, 10 have been confirmed as measles, while 9 tested negative. There are also 12 pending cases.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of public sensitization in controlling the outbreak.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also weighed in on the situation. A representative of the organization, Muhammad Dahiru, urged residents to report any individual with measles-like symptoms to the nearest health facility for proper management.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that affects people of all ages. It is characterized by symptoms such as fever, headache, conjunctivitis, rashes, cough, and runny nose.
