The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a fresh warning that it may resume its suspended nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to meet its outstanding demands by November 21, 2025.
The union formally declared the fresh strike threat following its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which concluded on November 9, 2025.
ASUU suspended a two-week warning strike on October 22, giving the government a one-month window to act.
However, the union’s leadership states that the government has yet to fulfil its promises, citing a major discrepancy between government announcements and payments received by lecturers.
ASUU insists university workers have not received “credit alerts” for the claimed release of N2.3 billion for arrears or the N50 billion revitalisation fund.
The union is demanding the release of 3.5 months of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and the full implementation of the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement.
However, despite all these threats, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, maintains that the government has met “literally all” demands and has a presidential mandate to prevent any further academic disruption.
ASUU, however, is urging the public to hold the government accountable as the deadline rapidly approaches.
