The Federal Government has directed vice-chancellors of all federal universities to strictly enforce the “no work, no pay” policy following the strike action declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa issued the directive in a statement, urging full compliance in line with existing labour laws.
“The policy is clear—any employee who fails to perform their duties during the strike period will not be entitled to salaries,” Alausa stated.
He directed the National Universities Commission (NUC) to monitor compliance through roll calls and reports on staff attendance.
According to him, only members of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) are exempted from the sanction.
Alausa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to education and appealed to ASUU to embrace dialogue rather than industrial action.
“We urge ASUU to return to the table. The Federal Government remains open to constructive engagement to resolve all issues,” he added.
