The attack, which occurred Saturday evening, is believed to be connected to a two-year-old conflict between the victims and their attackers.
The Chairman of Gulani Local Government Area, Hon. Daiyabu Ilu Njibulwa, condemned the brutal assault by attackers armed with arrows and matchetes.
Hon. Njibulwa expressed frustration with the police response to the ongoing conflict.
“We have repeatedly directed our complaints to the police, but no proper actions were taken despite the fact that a similar conflict occurred in the area last year,” Njibulwa said.
“It’s time for you to take action now; do it between you and your God.”
In response, the Deputy Commissioner of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Nigeria Police Force Damaturu Command condemned the attack and promised to take “proper action” to apprehend the perpetrators.
The police noted that they had previously reported the lingering conflict to the Boundary Adjustment Commission for a lasting solution.
