In an effort to boost agricultural production, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, announced the launch of the 2024 subsidized fertilizer program today in Dass.
The program aims to support farmers and encourage them to adopt modern farming techniques. Governor Mohammed highlighted the importance of agriculture and pledged to prioritize the sector despite facing challenges and resource limitations.
Governor Mohammed announced plans to strengthen agricultural initiatives by acquiring additional equipment and employing extension workers to improve crop yields. The state will also establish its own fertilizer production facility to create a more sustainable supply chain.
To mitigate the effects of climate change, the government will promote planting early-maturing crop varieties recommended by professionals.
Additionally, a fertilizer subsidy has been introduced, reducing the cost of a 150kg bag of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer from N26,966 to N20,000.
The launch ceremony was attended by Emirs, government officials, and representatives of farmers’ associations.
