Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has announced the allocation of 2,500 hectares of land in Sade and Darazo forest reserves for farming in a major step toward resolving recurring clashes between farmers and herders.
The governor made the announcement during a peace-building mission to Darazo Local Government Area, accompanied by top security officials including Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Traditional rulers and community leaders were also present.
Speaking at the gathering, Governor Mohammed acknowledged the rising tensions, attributing them partly to demographic changes and limited access to land.
โWe are committed to promoting peaceful coexistence and ensuring every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,โ he said.
โAllocating these lands is one of many steps we are taking.โ
The event provided a platform for both farmers and herders to air grievances and propose solutions.
The governor emphasised that only dialogue and inclusive policies can prevent further loss of lives and livelihoods.
Commissioner of Police Aliyu reaffirmed the security agencies’ readiness to support the peace initiative. โEveryone has a role to play in achieving lasting peace,โ he said.
โNo crime will be ignored, and the police are fully committed to ensuring safety across the state.โ
