The Bauchi State Government, on Monday has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Katagum Local Government Area, effective immediately, due to the deteriorating security situation in Azare and its environs.
According to a statement signed by Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, Secretary to the State Government, the curfew is aimed at containing the situation, which has led to the destruction of public property, stealing, and victimization.
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has directed all security agencies to take immediate action to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
He has also called on law-abiding citizens to cooperate with security agencies during this period.
The curfew will remain in place until further notice, as the government works to restore peace and order in the affected area.
Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Police Command said the 24-hour curfew in the Katagum Local Government Area was to prevent further escalation of violence and destruction of public property.
The curfew follows recent incidents of vandalism and looting in Azare town, and the arrest of three suspects in connection with the disturbances.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has ordered the strategic deployment of security assets to enforce the curfew and prevent further unrest. The police have also appealed to the public to cooperate with security agents in maintaining law and order.
