The Bauchi state Police Command has arrested three members of the Professional Hunters group for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The arrests come despite a previous warning issued by the Command to quasi-security outfits in the state regarding human rights violations.
According to the Police, the suspects – Mathew Enoch (23), Jesse William (25), and Gagare Gibson (age not specified) – were taken into custody for their involvement in a criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The Police Commissioner had earlier cautioned these groups to operate within the legal framework and adhere to standards to avoid abuse or misconduct. Despite this, some members of the Professional Hunters group continued to violate the law, leading to the arrests.
The Police Command is investigating the incident and has urged citizens to report any human rights violations by quasi-security outfits.
