A devastating rainstorm accompanied by strong winds struck Bauchi Metropolis on the evening of June 1, 2024, the bauchi State police command Confirms.
The IBB Square, which hosted the recently concluded North East Trade Fair, was severely affected, resulting in significant damage to the Gombe and Yobe States pavilions and several business tents in the trade fair complex.
Emergency response teams, led by the police and other security agencies, promptly initiated search and rescue operations.
Unfortunately, five individuals were found trapped under the fallen structures and were rushed to the hospital. Tragically, four individuals lost their lives in the incident, while one person remains hospitalized.
The deceased victims have been identified as:
– Abdullahi Abubakar, 38, of Yakubu Wanka
– Sadik Ahmed Alfa, 32, of Fadaman Mada
– Malam Musa, of Maliya Furnitures, Tudun Salmanu
– Abdulaziz Abdurrahman, of Gombe, Gombe State
The injured victim, Fatima Isa, 31, of Inkil, is currently receiving medical treatment.
