The Bauchi State Police Command has responded to allegations of inaction regarding the culpable homicide of 70-year-old Mama Talatu Joshua in Gobir village, Kirfi Local Government Area (LGA), clarifying their investigation and announcing the arrest of suspects.
CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil The command PPRO issued a press release on March 11, 2025, addressing a petition from ADA-LIGHT KWALTINGS, SAMUEL & PARTNERS, which alleged that police at Kirfi Division failed to apprehend suspects and mishandled the deceased’s body.
“We received a petition concerning the murder of Mama Talatu Joshua,” stated CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, Police Public Relations Officer.
“The petition alleged inaction on our part, and we are here to set the record straight.”
According to the police, Mama Talatu was assaulted on March 2nd, 2025, by Rilwanu Mani (Chiroman Gobir), Ali Isah (Sarkin Gobir), Ila Amo (Marafan Gobir), and Jamilu, resulting in her death.
The petition alleged that police officers confirmed her death but provided no further instructions.
“It is essential to clarify that law enforcement personnel are not qualified to make determinations regarding death,” CSP Wakil stated.
“We follow established protocols and regulations concerning professional conduct.”
The command refuted allegations of inaction, stating that the suspects were apprehended on March 8th, 2025, and detained at the Criminal Investigation Department.
“The suspects were arrested, and the investigation is ongoing,” CSP Wakil confirmed.
The investigation revealed that the attack stemmed from an incident on February 28th, 2025, when the wife of one suspect sought a traditional healer, who implicated Talatu in her illness.
“The suspects confronted Talatu, accused her of witchcraft, and ultimately assaulted her, leading to her death,” CSP Wakil explained.
“We urge all parties involved to refrain from disseminating unfounded statements, as such actions may compromise the organisation’s integrity and jeopardise the prevailing peace in Bauchi State,” CSP Wakil concluded.
“The police remain dedicated to adjudicating cases with objectivity and professionalism.”
