Borno First Lady Leads National Children’s Day Celebration in Maiduguri

Dr. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, First Lady of Borno State, collaborated with the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and CP AoR Partners to celebrate National Children’s Day at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Government House, Maiduguri, on Monday, May 27, 2024.

The event’s theme was “Enhancing the Total Wellbeing of the Nigerian Child Through Quality Education and Skills Development.”

Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, Commissioner of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, delivered welcome remarks. She highlighted Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s dedication to children’s well-being and education in the state.

She mentioned the Governor’s initiatives in building and reconstructing schools and ensuring well-trained teachers.

Following the opening remarks, goodwill messages were presented by stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, UNICEF representatives, and the CP AoR Coordinator.

A speech by the Borno State Children Parliament Speaker emphasized the children’s voices and aspirations. Cultural dances showcased Borno State’s rich heritage.

In her keynote address, Dr. Zulum commended the children’s resilience and potential. She acknowledged the administration’s efforts to ensure children are not left behind.

Dr. Zulum highlighted the schools built and reconstructed under Governor Zulum’s leadership and the ongoing efforts to provide qualified teachers through continuous training.

She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to prioritizing children and women’s education and wellbeing. She also praised Hon. Zuwaira Gambo for her dedication to supporting women and children.

The event concluded with gift presentations by Dr. Zulum and closing remarks by the Permanent Secretary.

The National Children’s Day celebration in Borno State exemplified the collaborative efforts of the government and partners in nurturing every child’s potential and ensuring they have an environment that supports their education, development, and overall well-being.
