The Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB) has honoured Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum with an Award of Excellence for promoting ethical broadcasting and supporting press freedom.
The announcement was made on Sunday, 23 November 2025, at the societyโs second annual national conference in Kano, according to Prof. Umaru A. Pate, President of SNB.
Pate said Zulum was selected for consistently supporting professionalism in the media industry.
โDespite the security challenges, Governor Zulum is performing,โ he stated.
โWe recognise his commitment to rebuilding communities affected by insurgency and his defence of ethical broadcasting.โ
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, Prof. Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, expressed gratitude on Zulumโs behalf.
โThe governor extends his appreciation and will continue to support the broadcast industry,โ he said.
Tar added that the state maintains strong relations with media organisations and reaffirmed the administrationโs plan to revive the Borno Radio Television (BRTV).
โHis Excellency is committed to resuscitating the state-owned broadcast outfit,โ he noted.
The commissioner was accompanied by Dauda Iliya, Special Adviser on Media, and Hon. Baba Sheikh Haruna, Senior Special Assistant on Media.
The conference also featured representatives of the governors of Kano, Bauchi and Kaduna States.
