The Borno State Government has launched the Lake Chad Inclusive Economic and Social Recovery Project (RESILAC 2) in Maiduguri.
The project, funded by the European Union (EU) and the French Development Agency (AFD), aims to build on the successes of the first phase of Resilac.
According to the National Coordinator for the Resilac 2 project, Gardie Nagutu, the project is a humanitarian initiative focused on building resilience in the Borno state of Nigeria, particularly in areas affected by the Lake Chad crisis, through economic recovery, social cohesion, and sustainable land management practices.
“The project I am aware of is being funded by the EU and AFD to consolidate on the huge successes of phase one of the project, which ended in 2023,” said Arc. Isa Garba Halidu, Honourable Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, during the launch event.
“Let me therefore congratulate Action Against Hunger (ACF) and Care International for being selected to spearhead this important project.”
Commissioner Halidu expressed hope that the project would be expanded to benefit more local governments and assist returnee refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The project will be implemented by Action Against Hunger (ACF) and Care International, with the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement serving as co-chair.
“On behalf of the other members of the benefiting local governments, I thank the RESILAC consortium for choosing Jere among the benefiting LGAs in the first phase of the project and appreciate them for their efforts,” said Hon. Abba Kyari Kolo, member representing Jere LGA at the Borno State House of Assembly.
The launch event was attended by various stakeholders, including the Chairperson of Jere local government area, Hon Inna Galadima, representatives from line ministries and MDAs, civil society organisations, and humanitarian partners.
