The Borno State Government, led by Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, is hosting the Association of Badminton Club in Nigeria (ABCIN) 2025 tournament
The event, themed “Peace Has Returned To Borno State,” was held at the NUGA hall of the University of Maiduguri.
Borno State Deputy Governor Dr. Kadafur, who declared the tournament open on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, explained that the tournament aims to promote peace and unity in the state.
He emphasised the importance of sports in uniting communities and promoting peace.
“This event symbolises not just the spirit of sportsmanship, but also the resilience, hope, and progress of our beloved Borno State.”
The tournament has attracted 96 badminton clubs from across Nigeria, with leading sponsorship from the deputy governor and various business organisations.
Alhaji Adamu Lawan Zaufanjinba, Chairman of the Borno State Badminton Club Association, noted that the event showcases talent, skills, and dedication, supporting Governor Zulum’s peace-building initiative.
Hon. Saina Buba, Commissioner for Youths, Sports, and Poverty Alleviation, highlighted the government’s achievements in security and social development, adding that the tournament has attracted businesses to the area.
The tournament, which began on February 5, is expected to end on February 8, 2025, with prizes to be awarded to 192 beneficiaries in various categories.
