The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that Hauwa Mohammed Goni and Ummina Hajara Mohammed Goni, the young girls seen in a recent viral video being mercilessly beaten and harassed with sticks, are recovering after being discharged from the hospital.
The video, which sparked widespread outrage, showed a man brutally assaulting the children, allegedly for illegally picking mangoes from his compound, while his wife recorded the incident.
This confirmation comes as the police reiterate commitment to a thorough and just investigation.
According to ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, Police Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, the children are now with their father, Mr Goni Muhammad.
“They were seen at the command headquarters alongside their father, where they received support from senior officers.” ASP Daso said.
The Command acknowledges the public’s heightened concern following the distressing video, which depicted the children suffering severe abuse.
“The Borno State Police Command is actively pursuing this investigation with the utmost seriousness. We are committed to ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice.”
ASP Daso reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and that the police are working diligently to gather all necessary evidence.
