The Borno State Police Command has refuted reports circulating online and in the Daily Trust newspaper claiming “repentant Boko Haram members invaded a police station in Borno.
In a press release issued by ASP Daso Nahum Kenneth, Police Public Relations Officer of Police Borno State Police Command, it was clarified that, on April 30, 2024, a joint raid was conducted at Kasuwan Fara, Maiduguri, as part of ongoing crime prevention efforts.
Eight suspects were apprehended with a significant amount of illegal alcohol (426 assorted dry gin, spirits in sachets, PET bottles, and glass bottles).
The statement highlighted that Kasuwan Fara had become a haven for criminal activity, prompting the state government to impose a ban on unlawful activities in the area.
Authorities criticized the Daily Trust reporter’s portrayal of the event, claiming it misconstrued a legitimate police operation. They emphasized that a press release detailing the arrests and seized items had already been issued to the public.
The Borno State Police Command reassured residents that peace has been restored, allowing them to pursue their daily lives without fear.
The command also urged the public to disregard “unfounded and misleading information” aimed at undermining progress towards Borno’s stability.
