The Borno State Police Command has paraded 96 suspects arrested between Thursday, August 1st, and Saturday, August 10th, for their involvement in violent protests, looting, theft, and displaying foreign flags in Maiduguri and its environs.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yususfu Mohammed Lawal, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Crack Office in Maiduguri.
He attributed the arrests to proactive measures taken by the command in collaboration with other security agencies to maintain law and order amidst the nationwide “End Bad Governance” protests.
CP Lawal, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, explained that seven social media influencers were also apprehended for inciting violence and insulting government officials, clerics, and traditional leaders.
Additionally, seven individuals were arrested for displaying foreign flags, which was deemed a threat to national security.
The command also rounded up 83 suspects involved in vandalising public and private properties, setting fires, rioting, and looting shops and stores.
The damages included the vandalisation of a WFP warehouse, the removal of public infrastructure, and the destruction of vehicles.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the command to ensure peace and security in the state.
