The Borno State Police Command has dismissed viral social media videos alleging religious bias and unprofessional conduct in the handling of the abduction case involving Aisha Kabiru Saleh, describing the claims as false, malicious, and misleading.
The Command, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the videos wrongly accused Inspector Usman Mohammed of bias in a case involving a suspect identified as Sani Adamu.
According to the statement, the case originated from a petition received on 2nd May 2025 from Mrs Hadiza Abdullahi, who alleged criminal conspiracy, abduction, and child trafficking against Sani Adamu and others.
The complaint involved her daughter, Aisha Kabiru Saleh, a 16-year-old student of Government Girls Secondary School, Yerwa, who had been missing for two years before resurfacing.
โUpon her return, the victim alleged that her teacher, one Sani Adamu, conspired with six others to abduct and traffic her to Jos,โ the police said.
The Command confirmed that six suspects were arrested while the principal suspect remains at large.
The case, it added, was transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on 8th May 2025 for further investigation and prosecution.
โFor clarification, no search was conducted in the residence of any suspect as falsely alleged in the video. All official actions were carried out in line with established procedures and in collaboration with relevant authorities,โ the statement added.
The Command described the viral videos as โa calculated attempt to misinform the public and undermine confidence in the police.โ
It further reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, impartiality, and human rights protection, urging the public to disregard unverified information capable of inciting mistrust or tension.
The statement concluded that NAPTIP is currently handling the investigation and promised to provide updates as the process progresses.
