Borno POWA Celebrates Int’l Women’s Day with Empowerment Program

The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Borno State Chapter, commemorated International Women’s Day with an empowerment program at the Borno State Police Command headquarters in Maiduguri.

“The event, held on Thursday, brought together police officers’ wives and senior female police officers to celebrate the achievements of women,” stated ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, Public Relations Officer for the Borno State Police Command.

The event, which aligned with the vision of the National POWA President, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, was chaired by the Borno POWA Chairperson, Barr. Zara Umar Yakubu.

In her address, she emphasised the importance of hygiene, the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), and the promotion of gender equality.

“We are here today to celebrate the strength and resilience of women,” Barr. Yakubu stated. “It is crucial that we address issues like gender-based violence and promote equality in our communities.”

She also expressed gratitude to the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, and the entire police personnel for their continued support.

Mrs. Hauwa Gambo, a beneficiary of the empowerment program, expressed her appreciation to POWA. “I am grateful for the support and efforts of POWA in uplifting women,” she said.

“This event highlights the commitment of POWA to empowering women and contributing to the development of our society,” the police spokesperson stated.
