Borno State University Welcomes New Students at 6th Orientation Ceremony

Borno State University (BOSU) held its 6th orientation ceremony for newly admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic session at the University Mini Sport Complex.

Declaring the ceremony open, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babagana Gutti, urged the students to adhere to the university’s rules and regulations and to maintain good behaviour on campus, avoiding any immoral activities.

Professor Gutti emphasised the university’s commitment to research and societal transformation, stating,’ “You are all here as equals and partners to what you possess between your ears; BOSU is therefore a place for the chosen but those who have chosen it as an arena to mould their futur’e.”

He congratulated the students on their academic achievements that secured their admission.

The Registrar, Mrs Jallaba M. Sheikh, explained that the orientation aims to familiarise students with their new environment. She assured the students of the institution’s commitment to providing quality education, research opportunities, and a supportive community. 

“Management of the university has, within the limits of its available resources, provided the necessary infrastructure and facilities for learning and for your comfort,” she stated.

Mrs Sheikh expressed the university’s gratitude to the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for his support in the university’s rapid development, as well as to the Vice-Chancellor, management, Senate, and staff.

The ceremony included presentations by various resource persons. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Yahaya Dunoma, spoke on student success on campus, while the university librarian, Dr Hamsatu K. Ali, highlighted the importance of the library.

Other speakers, including Professor Ahmadu Kiltho and representatives from the police and NDLEA, addressed examination malpractice, the grading system, theft, and substance abuse.
