Borno Teams Qualify for National Youth Games

Borno State teams have secured qualification in a majority of team sports at the National Youth Games zonal elimination held in Gombe.

The state’s contingent will now represent the Northeast region at the main event in Delta State.

The zonal elimination for team sports, which took place from Saturday, August 16, to Thursday, August 21, 2025, included teams from Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Taraba, and Gombe.

Team Borno qualified in hockey (both boys and girls), handball (boys), volleyball, and beach volleyball, among other games.

The leader of the delegation and Executive Secretary of the Borno State Sports Council, Alhaji Bura Mustapha Alesadiyaye, thanked Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum for providing the necessary support for the youths to showcase their talents.

“We thank His Excellency Professor Babagana Umara Zulum for giving youths all the needed support as well as sponsoring them to showcase their talents at the youth games,” Alesadiyaye said in a statement released Friday.

He also commended Comrade Saiina Buba, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Development, for his encouragement and motivation.

The National Youth Games will take place in Delta State from August 26 to September 6, 2025.
