Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is set to present the state’s first-ever proposed budget exceeding ₦1 trillion for the 2026 financial year.
The historic announcement was contained in a statement released on November 14, 2025, by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Kano Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
This proposed figure is poised to be the largest budget ever recorded by any state in Northern Nigeria.
The governor revealed the scale of the plan during the Second Special Executive Council Meeting convened on Friday to finalise the proposals.
The massive budget size is intended to consolidate ongoing urban renewal and expand socio-economic development across the state, focusing particularly on infrastructure.
Governor Yusuf attributed the substantial increase directly to improved internal revenue generation (IGR) and the rigorous effort to eliminate financial leaks.
“Our administration has strengthened internal revenue mechanisms and sealed leakages, which now allows us to plan boldly for transformative projects in 2026,” the Governor stated.
The 2026 budget priorities will centre on housing development, agriculture, education, healthcare, and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Once concluded by the executive council, the proposed budget will be formally transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly next week for legislative consideration and approval.
