Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, who excreted 127 wraps of cocaine after being placed under observation at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.
Emeka, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, arrived from Bangkok, Thailand aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight on October 8, when he was intercepted following credible intelligence.
A body scan revealed that he had ingested illicit drugs and concealed some in his private part.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, operatives recovered 58 wraps from his underwear, while another 69 pellets were egested in seven excretions, weighing 1.388 kilograms in total.
In a separate operation, NDLEA officers intercepted three drug consignments bound for the United Kingdom at a courier company in Lagos between October 9 and 10.
The seizures included 1.74 kg of methamphetamine hidden in glass ceramics, pentazocine and tramadol injections, and tramadol capsules concealed in vitamin C containers.
Other interceptions included 2.6 kg of skunk and 422 g of tapentadol hidden in black soap tablets heading to Turkey, 169 g of cocaine in handbags bound for Australia, and 568 g of cannabis concealed in herbal containers destined for the UAE.
NDLEA officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) also seized 27,510 pills of rohypnol concealed in alcoholic drink sachets headed for South Africa.
The mastermind, Samuel Omoruyi (alias Yellow), was arrested following a follow-up operation at Oyingbo Market, Lagos.
In Edo, Osun, Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna States, multiple suspects were arrested, and large quantities of skunk, tramadol, pentazocine, and exol-5 pills were seized in a coordinated nationwide crackdown.
Meanwhile, NDLEA formations continued War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns across schools and communities nationwide, including Adamawa, Ebonyi, Katsina, Enugu, Niger, Kogi, Anambra, Rivers, Kano, and Osun States.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the officers for their professionalism and urged continued diligence in the agencyโs ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking.
