Chad Calls For Deeper Security, Economic Ties with Nigeria

The Consul General of the Republic of Chad in Maiduguri, Mr. Bisso Youssouf Mbodou Mbami, has called for deeper security and economic cooperation between Nigeria and Chad to curb cross-border crime and strengthen regional stability in the Lake Chad Basin.

Mr. Bisso made the call on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri.

โ€œOur two nations must continue to work closely to protect our borders and secure our people,โ€ he said. โ€œMutual understanding and cooperation are key to sustaining border commerce and building trust.โ€

The Consul General praised the Nigerian military for its resilience and sacrifice in the fight against terrorism, describing the partnership between the Nigerian and Chadian forces as โ€œa model of regional solidarity.โ€

He also urged for sustained dialogue to address trade and communication challenges, adding that Chad was sensitizing its citizens on Nigeriaโ€™s trade laws and border regulations.

Responding, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, reaffirmed the Nigerian militaryโ€™s commitment to stronger ties under the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

โ€œChad remains a trusted brother and strategic ally,โ€ General Abubakar said.

โ€œWe will continue to collaborate to protect legitimate trade routes and ensure that livelihoods do not fall into the hands of terrorists.โ€

Both delegations exchanged views on regional security, cross-border trade, and the safety of Chadian citizens residing in Nigeria.

The visit concluded with the presentation of souvenirs, signing of the visitorsโ€™ register, and a group photograph.

Mr. Bisso was accompanied by the Consulateโ€™s Liaison Officer, Major Oumar Tahir Attahir, while senior officers of OPHK also attended the meeting.
