The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is telling its members nationwide to ignore the Federal High Court ruling that blocked its planned 2025 National Convention.

The party is insisting that all organs and chapters must continue with preparations.

Reacting swiftly to the judgement delivered by Justice James Omotosho in Abuja on Friday, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, dismissed the order.

He stressed that the court action โ€œdoes not vitiate its ability to proceed with the processes and activities towards the National Convention.โ€

The ruling followed a suit filed by three concerned members, compelling the party to meet all legal requirements before holding the convention.

The court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising any convention held without due process.

Mr Ologunagba condemned the judgement as โ€œan assault on Nigeriaโ€™s democratic process.โ€

โ€œWe urge our members, from the wards to the national level, to remain steadfast and focused,โ€ Ologunagba charged. He stated the partyโ€™s unwavering commitment to the rule of law while noting the Supreme Courtโ€™s recent stance on political parties managing their own internal affairs.

The PDP has, however, directed its lawyers to immediately file an appeal, vowing to fight the decision in court.
