The Kano State Police Command has welcomed its new Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who assumed duty on March 17, 2025, as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, Kano State Command, broke the news in a statement on Monday.
He succeeds the former commissioner, who was recently promoted to the rank of assistant inspector-general of police.
CP Bakori, a seasoned law enforcement professional with over 28 years of service, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Born on February 6, 1969, in the Katsina Local Government Area of Katsina State, he joined the Nigeria Police Force on August 15, 1996, as a cadet assistant superintendent of police, undergoing training at the prestigious Police Academy Wudil, Kano.
“I am honoured to serve the people of Kano State,” CP Bakori stated upon assuming duty.
“My priority is to ensure the safety and security of all residents, and I am committed to working tirelessly to achieve this goal.”
CP Bakori holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from Nassarawa State University, Keffi, as well as master’s degrees in Peace, Conflict and Strategic Studies from Kaduna State University and Public Administration from the University of Abuja.
He has also attended numerous professional courses, including the Police Mobile Force Operation Course, Advanced Detective Course, and Strategic Leadership and Command Course.
Notably, he has gained international exposure, having travelled to more than 25 countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Throughout his distinguished career, CP Bakori has served in various capacities, including O/C Patrol and Guard, Akwanga Division; Divisional Crime Officer, Lafia & Doma Divisions; Aid-De-Camp (ADC) to the Hon. Speaker, House of Representatives; Commanding Officer, 17 PMF, Akure; and Commissioner of Police, Homicide, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, among others.
“My diverse experience has prepared me for the challenges ahead,” CP Bakori asserted.
“I am confident that with the cooperation of the public, we can make Kano State a safer place for everyone.”
He has called on the public to cooperate with the police and provide useful information to aid in the fight against crime.
“We urge the people of Kano State to extend their maximum support and cooperation to CP Bakori,” said SP Kiyawa. “Together, we can build a safer and more secure Kano.”
