A major offensive against thuggery and substance abuse has been launched in Kano State, with the Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation conducting a series of targeted operations across the city.
The two-day blitz, spanning March 13th and 14th, 2025, resulted in the arrest of 53 suspects and the recovery of a substantial haul of narcotics, weapons, and suspected stolen livestock.
Under the leadership of Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, the task force, comprised of combined security agencies and government officials, executed intelligence-led raids on notorious criminal hideouts and black spots in Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’in, Dan Agundi, and surrounding areas.
“We are determined to reclaim our streets from the clutches of criminality,” declared a spokesperson for the committee.
“These operations demonstrate our unwavering commitment to restoring peace and order to Kano.”
The raids yielded a significant cache of illicit substances, including three parcels, 50 wraps, and a large quantity of suspected Cannabis Sativa (Wiwi); two bottles of codeine syrup; two tubes of rubber solution; one gallon of “suck and die”; and 105 pieces of suspected exol tablets.
“The sheer volume of drugs recovered highlights the scale of the problem we are facing,” the spokesperson stated.
“But we are making significant strides in dismantling these criminal networks.”
In addition to the narcotics, the task force seized five cutlasses, two scissors, two clubs (Gora), and a quantity of suspected charms.
A particularly significant find was made at a notorious drug joint in Zanzado, where a substantial quantity of cannabis sativa was recovered, along with a delivery vehicle and five cattle suspected to belong to a known drug dealer.
“The recovery of these livestock raises serious concerns about the involvement of drug dealers in other criminal activities,” the spokesperson noted.
All 53 suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation. “We are sending a clear message that criminal activity will not be tolerated in Kano,” the spokesperson emphasised.
The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee has vowed to continue its operations, determined to create a “safer, drug-free, and peaceful environment” for all residents.
