President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong directive to Nigeria’s newly decorated service chiefs, telling them that Nigerians expect “results, not excuses” in the war against terrorism, banditry, and rising criminal threats.
Speaking on Thursday at the Presidential Villa after decorating the service chiefs with their new ranks, Tinubu said the era of tolerating insecurity that began in 2009 must end.
“We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer. Nigerians expect results, not excuses,” the President declared.
“Be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace.”
The President, visibly firm in tone, urged the military to dismantle emerging armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South.
“Security threats are constantly evolving. We must not allow new threats to fester. Smash the new snakes right at the head,” he warned.
Tinubu reassured the military of full government support, saying their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
“Over the years, our military has defended our territorial integrity, with many soldiers paying the supreme price. Their sacrifices will not be in vain,” he said.
The ceremony at the Council Chambers was attended by top government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, several governors, ministers, and service chiefs’ spouses.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them and pledged total commitment.
“Without the support of Nigerians, we can hardly achieve anything. We promise to make Nigeria a safer place,” Oluyede assured.
The newly decorated service chiefs are General Olufemi Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Lieutenant General Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye (Chief of Defence Intelligence), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff), and Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke (Chief of Air Staff).
