The Nigeria Police Force has secured the conviction of 21 foreign nationals involved in a major cybercrime syndicate in Abuja.
The convictions are the result of a sustained crackdown on cyber-related crimes and a broader effort to protect national security.
According to a press statement by DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force spokesman, on August 10, 2025, the convictions stem from a raid on November 3, 2024, in Jahi, Abuja.
During the raid, police arrested 130 suspects, including 113 foreign nationals of Chinese and Malaysian origin, along with 17 Nigerian collaborators.
The suspects were implicated in internet fraud, hacking, and other cyber offences.
After “meticulous and painstaking investigations”, the suspects were arraigned in court on December 2, 2024. As of August 1, 2025, 21 of the accused have been convicted and sentenced. Prosecution of the remaining defendants is ongoing.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the forceโs commitment to fighting cybercrime.

He emphasised that the conviction “sends a strong message to both local and international cybercriminal networks that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for criminal enterprises.”
The police promised to continue using cutting-edge technology and international collaboration to dismantle organised cybercrime groups.
