The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two principal suspects in connection with the killing of 16 travellers in Uromi, Esan North Local Government Area of Edo State.
Friday Ituah, Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, confirmed the arrests, stating that intelligence reports led DSS operatives to Uromi town.
The suspects have been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.
The incident occurred on March 28, 2025, when a mob killed 16 local hunters, mistakenly believed to be kidnappers.
The travellers were intercepted by local security personnel, who discovered homemade weapons in their vehicle. This discovery triggered a violent mob attack, resulting in the victims being beaten and set ablaze.
President Bola Tinubu condemned the killings and ordered a full investigation and the arrest of those responsible. Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who visited the victims’ families, had previously announced the arrest of 14 suspects, who were to be moved to Abuja.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State commended Governor Okpebholo’s prompt response and called for the public parade of the suspects to provide closure for the victims’ families and ensure accountability.
