The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into remarks made by an Imam during a Friday sermon, which sparked unrest among followers of the late Malam Idris Abdulazeez Dutsen-Tanshi.
According to the statement On April 4, 2024, at approximately 2:45 PM, police received a report that Ahmad Isa Jaja, Chief Imam of Galli Mosque in the Jahun area of Bauchi Metropolis, made “inappropriate remarks” about the late Malam Idris Abdulazeez Dutsen-Tanshi during his sermon.
This led to a gathering of the late Malam Idris’s followers at the mosque.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, deployed tactical units to the mosque, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dutsen-Tanshi, to ensure the safety of the Imam and the congregation.

The crowd was dispersed peacefully, and the Imam was taken into protective custody.
CP Aliyu has directed the State Intelligence Department (SID) to conduct a “thorough and discreet investigation” into the incident.
The Commissioner emphasised the importance of religious leaders exercising their freedom of expression responsibly, urging them to refrain from using the pulpit for “insults, derogatory and abusive remarks”.
He stressed the need for leaders to promote peace and harmony within the community, regardless of differing opinions or religious beliefs, and to demonstrate respect for established authorities.
