Eid-El-Fitr: Sultan Asks Muslims to Look Out for Shawwal Crescent Saturday

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called upon Muslims across Nigeria to commence the search for the Shawwal crescent moon on Saturday, March 29th, 2025, marking the 29th day of Ramadan 1446AH.

According to a press release issued by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council, Muslims are urged to report any sightings of the new moon to their nearest District or Village Head.

These reports will then be relayed to the Sultan, who also serves as the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1446AH on Saturday and report its sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onwards communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA),” Junaidu stated.

The sighting of the Shawwal moon signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration. 

The Sultanate Council prayed for the successful fulfilment of this religious obligation.
