The Nigeria National League (NNL) has fined El-Kanemi Warriors FC N1 million (One Million Naira) for indecent conduct by their supporters during a match against Nasarawa United.
The incident occurred on the first day of the Super 8 playoffs at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. After a penalty awarded to El-Kanemi was overturned by the referee, the head coach of the El-Kanemi supporters’ club and his group invaded the pitch.
Reports indicate they attempted to assault the referees before being stopped by security personnel.
The NNL Disciplinary Committee, led by Hon. Yakubu Salma, strongly condemned the actions of the supporters, calling it a “show of shame” that violates NNL regulations. El-Kanemi Warriors were penalized under Section 16.4 of the league’s rulebook, resulting in the hefty fine.
Furthermore, the head of the El-Kanemi supporters’ club has been banned from attending any remaining Super 8 matches.
The NNL has also advised the El-Kanemi Warriors management to prioritize educating their supporters on proper conduct and NNL rules.
