A fire suspected to have been caused by an electrical malfunction ripped through Kayat Restaurant, a popular eatery and joint in Maiduguri.

Located along the Old GRA Circular Road in Maiduguri, the fire broke out at around 11:45 am on Sunday morning.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that a rapid response team, deployed by Commissioner of Police (CP) Naziru Abdulmajid psc, immediately mobilised to the scene.

Working with the State and Federal Fire Services, the police successfully contained and extinguished the blaze.

According to ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer, “Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by an electrical malfunction.”

No life was lost in the incident, and police secured the property to prevent looting.

The Command advised the public to exercise extreme caution with electrical installations to prevent future occurrences.
