The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially transferred the Kashimbila Dam to KP Hydro Limited on Saturday, October 6, 2024.
Kashimbila Dam is located in Taraba State, Nigeria, and serves as a hydroelectric dam on the Kerefe River. The dam has an installed capacity of 40 MW of hydroelectric power and was completed in 2017.
The handover was aimed towards boosting the country’s renewable energy capacity and addressing its growing energy needs.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, emphasised the importance of this concession agreement.
“The transfer of the Kashimbila Dam to KP Hydro Limited is expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s power generation capacity and contribute to the country’s economic development,” he stated.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including General T.Y. Danjuma (rtd.), the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Ustev, Taraba State’s Commissioner for Energy and Economic Development, Engr. Naomi Tanko Agbu, traditional leaders, and other government officials.
The Kashimbila Dam’s transfer to the private sector marks a new era for Taraba State, promising long-term economic benefits and improved livelihoods for its people.
