Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for their successful rescue of two Catholic priests kidnapped in Numan, Adamawa State.

In a statement issued by Humwashi Wonosikou Chief Press Secretary to the Governor on Friday, Fintiri expressed his gratitude for the DSS’s “gallant efforts” in rescuing Rev. Fathers Matthew David Dusami and Abraham Samman without paying any ransom.

He specifically acknowledged the DSS Director General and the Adamawa State Command for the successful operation.

Governor Fintiri further emphasised his administration’s commitment to prioritising the security of lives and property, issuing a stern warning to criminals: “We will not spare anybody found wanting, no matter who you are.”

He praised the “prompt response” of the DSS operatives, which led to the priests’ rescue and the arrest of suspect Tahamado Jonathan Damien, a church member.

The governor highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing and cooperation among law enforcement agencies.

He believes that the combined efforts of the DSS, police, armed forces, and other agencies will instill confidence in investors and residents, promoting socio-economic development through peace and security.

The priests were abducted from their residence at a convent in Gweda Mallam, Numan Local Government Area, in February 2025.
