Authorities are investigating a suspected arson incident after a fire ravaged the school section of an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Sokoto State on April 3, 2025.
The fire, which broke out at approximately 4:08 PM, caused extensive damage to Jarma UK Academy.
According to eyewitnesses who disclosed to our reporter on grounds of anonymity, the blaze consumed Primary 5 and 6, JSS 1, and SS3 classrooms, along with the Skills Acquisition Centre and male student hostels.
While no injuries or deaths were reported, the scale of destruction has raised concerns, prompting investigators to focus on the possibility of arson.
Emergency services, including the Federal and State Fire Services and various security agencies, responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire after a prolonged effort.
While the exact cause is still under investigation, police have taken suspects into custody, indicating a strong suspicion of deliberate intent.
Investigators are working to determine the motive and identify all individuals involved.
The value of the property lost is still being assessed as authorities work to provide support and resources to the displaced students and staff.
