A fire outbreak has engulfed the villages of Wanori, Sarari, and Nuguri in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, claiming the lives of two individuals and displacing thousands.
The blaze, which erupted in the early hours of Sunday, April 6, 2025, has compounded the suffering of residents already burdened by past hardships.
Wanori, located along the Maiduguri-Bama road, was particularly hard hit, forcing a mass exodus as residents fled the rapidly spreading flames.

This latest disaster adds to the village’s troubled history, which includes previous fire incidents and displacement due to Boko Haram insurgency before their eventual return.
The cause of the current fire remains unknown at this time.
Eyewitnesses told our reporter that two male bodies were recovered, which were buried according to Islamic rites on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Mamman from Nuguri village and Tahiru from Wanori village.
“A devastating fire outbreak burnt down WANORI, SARARI AND NGURURI villages this morning, killing 2 people and forcing thousands to flee. The bodies recovered are recognised to be those of MAMMAN in Ngururi and my very good friend TAHIRU of Wanori village, both buried according to Islamic burial rites. May Allah accept their Shahada,” wrote a distraught eyewitness on his social media account.
The fire has left countless residents homeless, with many seeking refuge in neighbouring communities.
Efforts to contact the Konduga Local Government Chairman for comment were unsuccessful at the time of press.
