Four Killed in Jigawa Bus Fire

Four people, including three children, died in a bus fire in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. when a Hummer bus carrying 44 passengers from Zaki Local Government Area in Bauchi State to Gwaram caught fire near Government Girls Unity Secondary School.

Police spokesperson SP Lawan Shiisu confirmed that the fire was caused when a mattress tied to the back of the bus came into contact with the exhaust pipe.

Four victims, a 40-year-old woman and three children aged five, three, and ten, were killed.

Ten other passengers were injured and taken to Gwaram Cottage Hospital for treatment. The remaining passengers were safely evacuated.

The remains of the deceased have been released to their families for burial.

The Jigawa Police Command urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to avoid overloading and speeding and to regularly inspect their vehicles.
