“Game-Changer” Hospital Takeover: Gombe Governor Visits Minister, Hails Tinubu

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed his “profound appreciation” to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the federal government’s takeover and conversion of the Kumo General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

The Governor made the appreciation during a visit to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, on March 11th, 2025.

“This visit underscores our commitment to strengthening partnerships with federal institutions,” Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General (Press Affairs) Government House, Gombe, said in a statement.

“Governor Yahaya is determined to attract developmental projects to Gombe State.”

During the meeting, Governor Yahaya reiterated his gratitude for the President’s support in upgrading the state-of-the-art facility.

“I am deeply grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the conversion of General Hospital Kumo to a Federal Medical Centre,” he declared.

“This development will be a game-changer, not only for Gombe State but also in the North East subregion. It will increase access to quality healthcare for our people, reduce medical tourism, and create a robust medical workforce.”

He also thanked Minister Pate for his “continuous support and collaboration,” acknowledging his “key factor” role in the project’s success and the improvement of healthcare systems across Nigeria.

“Professor Pate’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing healthcare in our state,” the spokesperson added.

The minister had previously commended Governor Yahaya for his “exceptional leadership and vision” in advancing healthcare in Gombe State.

“I must commend Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his commitment to improving the healthcare sector in Gombe,” Professor Pate had remarked during a visit to the state. 

“His efforts in transforming healthcare facilities are commendable. This is a model of leadership that others should emulate.”

The governor’s visit is a move that would further solidify the partnership between Gombe State and the federal government, ensuring the successful operation of the new Federal Medical Centre.
