Gombe State has announced new restrictions to prevent clashes between farmers and herders ahead of the 2025/2026 harvest season.
The measures were outlined in a statement on Monday, September 29, 2025, by Dr Barnabas M. Malle, Commissioner for Agriculture and Chairman of the Farmers/Herders Prevention and Settlement of Disputes Committee.
The resolution, endorsed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, includes a ban on the entry of herders from neighbouring states between October 2025 and January 2026, a restriction on inter-local government movement of herders, and an enforcement of the night grazing ban from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Other measures include prohibiting crop residue sales before neighbours finish harvesting, a ban on night-time harvesting and crop transportation, and a directive for both farmers and herders to avoid taking laws into their hands during disputes.
โThese measures are designed to sustain the peace achieved during the last harvest season,โ Dr Malle said.
โWe call on traditional rulers, security agencies, and local government chairmen to ensure strict compliance.โ
The committee also expressed appreciation to farmers, herders, and security agencies for supporting peaceful coexistence and pledged commitment to a conflict-free harvest period.
