Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the federal government’s takeover and conversion of the newly reconstructed Kumo General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).
This was disclosed in a press statement issued by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General (Press Affairs), Government House, Gombe, on Sunday.
Governor Yahaya hailed the decision as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in Gombe State and the wider Northeast region.
“This approval by President Tinubu will undoubtedly enhance the provision of quality healthcare services to our people and those in neighbouring states,” he stated.
He highlighted the potential of the upgraded facility to serve as a teaching hospital for both the Federal University of Kashere and Lincoln University, Kumo.
“Training future medical practitioners here will significantly strengthen our health workforce,” Governor Yahaya remarked.
The Governor emphasised his administration’s dedication to improving healthcare, citing the remodelling of the specialist hospital in Gombe, general hospitals in Bajoga and Kaltungo, and the construction of the Kumo hospital, as well as the revitalisation of 114 primary healthcare centres across the state.
“Upon completing the reconstruction and equipping of the 200-bed ultramodern Kumo Hospital, we requested its takeover by the federal government,” he explained.
“Today, Mr. President has graciously approved our request. On behalf of the people of Gombe State, we express our sincere appreciation.”
He also acknowledged the support of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate.
The presidency, in its announcement, recognised Governor Yahaya’s commitment to improving Gombe’s healthcare sector, aligning with the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“The Federal Government recognises the stateโs commitment to improving its health sector in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which encompasses comprehensive reforms in healthcare,” the Presidency stated.
Governor Yahaya recently announced plans to build an additional 114 primary healthcare centres across the state, further demonstrating his dedication to accessible healthcare.
