…Commends UNICEF for Educational Achievements in the State

As parents prepare for the resumption of schools for 3rd term in Gombe state, the government has reassured them of their children’s safety in schools. Saying the security and well-being of students is a top priority for the government.

This was disclosed by the state’s commissioner of education Prof. Aishatu Maigari while speaking with newsmen during a two-day regional stakeholder’s meeting on out-of-school children, held in Gombe.

Responding to rumors and speculations following the earlier closure of the schools and extension of the second term holiday, the commissioner identified the effect of a recent heatwave in its decision for early closure and extension of holidays in the state. According to Maigari, the state government’s move comes as a response to the extreme weather conditions in the area.

She emphasized the importance of prioritizing the health and well-being of students and other residents in the state, saying the temperatures had reached unprecedented levels, which necessitated the government to make the decision to provide a safe environment for everyone involved in the education system.

There had been speculation and rumors circulating suggesting that the state government shut down schools due to a letter allegedly written by unknown bandits threatening to abduct students in both public and private schools in the state. The source of the information is yet to be confirmed. The government reassured the public about the safety and security of students across the state.

While the commissioner assured that measures are being taken to ensure that schools can reopen without any risks, she further disclosed that Easter, Ramadan, and Sallah breaks also contributed to the extension of the school holiday.

Additionally, the commissioner commended the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for their invaluable contributions to the education sector in the state.

According to the commissioner, through collaborative efforts, significant successes have been achieved, especially in the area of out-of-school children in the state.

Maigari added that the strides made in the education sector of Gombe are a testament to the collective efforts of all stakeholders involved. “From policymakers to educators, parents to students, each has played a vital role in fostering a culture of learning and development in the state,” She stated.
