The Gombe State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) announced its 2025 Press Week and unanimously commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his “unparalleled support” to the Union.
The commendation, along with other key resolutions, was issued in a communiqué at the end of the 2nd Congress Meeting, signed by Council Chairman Comrade Faruk Mu’azu Gombe and Secretary Shuaibu Umar on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
The Gombe NUJ leadership expressed specific gratitude for the governor’s support, particularly his pledge to soon hand over the NUJ State Secretariat to the Council.
“The Congress commended His Excellency Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Governor of Gombe State, for his continued and unparalleled support to the Union,” the communiqué stated, while also urging members to maintain professional standards and unity.
2025 Press Week Activities
The Chairman announced that the 2025 NUJ Press Week will run from November 24 to 30, with a diverse schedule of events. Highlights include:
- Project Inspection: Visits to key developmental projects across the state.
- Public Lecture: Focused on the theme, Governance, Accountability & Media Ethics, featuring Governor Yahaya as the Special Guest of Honour.
- Community Outreach: A tree-planting exercise in support of the Greening Gombe initiative and free medical outreach for journalists.
- Camaraderie: A novelty football match to foster unity.
- Special Prayers: Scheduled services at the Gombe Central Mosque and ECWA Goodnews, off Ashaka Road.
The Council also received praise from Comrade Peter Mele, Senior Special Assistant to the National President of the NUJ, who described the upcoming event as a “first-of-its-kind Press Week” and called for maximum cooperation from all state members.
